An Apple Contacts alternative with more personal context
Keep the contacts you already have. Add the details that help you remember people.
Persodex builds on your iPhoneโs address book with conversation notes, tags, interaction history, and reminders to stay in touch.
When your address book needs more context
You meet someone at a conference. You talk about their new business, exchange recommendations, and promise to introduce them to a friend.
A month later, their number is still in your contacts. The details are harder to recall.
Apple Contacts provides the essentials, including contact details, a notes field, lists, and birthdays. Persodex builds on that foundation with a place for ongoing conversation history and a routine for staying in touch.
It becomes useful when you want to remember how a relationship develops, as well as how to reach the person.
Apple Contacts and Persodex: whatโs the difference?
Persodex works directly with Appleโs native Contacts database. Your existing contacts are the starting point - itโs like a context layer for your contacts.
Works with your existing Apple contacts
Contact notes and an interaction timeline
Custom tags, colors, groups, and filtering
Choose a catch-up frequency for each person
Add a contact to-do with a due date
โฆ and mure more
These features work together around the person. You can review a conversation, see what you promised, and decide when to reach out again from the same contact.
From a first meeting to a thoughtful follow-up
Imagine you meet Alex at a local design event. You would like to remember the conversation and keep in touch.
Capture the details while theyโre fresh
Save Alexโs contact details, then add a short note in Persodex:
ยปMet at the October design meetup. Starting an independent studio. Interested in accessible product design. Promised to send Morganโs portfolio.ยซ
A few details give you a useful starting point for the next conversation. You choose what to record after a meeting, call, or catch-up.
Add a useful tag
Tag Alex with ยปDesign meetupยซ and ยปProduct design.ยซ
Those tags give you another way to find Alex when the connection comes back to you before the name. Custom colors can make your frequently used categories easier to recognize.
Give the promise a next step
Create a to-do to send the portfolio and add a due date.
The task stays connected to Alex, with your note there to explain why the introduction matters.
Make room for the next conversation
Choose a catch-up frequency if you would like to stay in touch.
When it is time to reconnect, review your notes before writing. As you add further conversations, the timeline becomes a useful history of the details you chose to keep.
Get started with the contacts you already have
Download Persodex, grant the contact access needed to work with your address book, and open someone you know.
Add one useful note, a tag, or a catch-up reminder. You can begin with a handful of people and organize more of your address book as you go.
Search includes context such as contact notes, tags, companies, and job titles. That helps when you remember someoneโs work or a topic you discussed more readily than their name.
There is no separate Persodex address book to rebuild before you begin.
Understand where your information lives
Your contact details use Appleโs native Contacts database. Persodex uses your own iCloud for supported app data and synchronization when enabled.
Your address book remains part of your Apple setup. Other apps that use Apple Contacts can continue to access contact details according to the permissions you grant.
Optional features, including external profile enrichment and Gravatar images, can involve external services. Review the available settings and privacy information when deciding which features to use.
Is Persodex the right contacts app for you?
Persodex is useful when you regularly find yourself thinking:
ยปI remember meeting them, but what did we discuss?ยซ
ยปWho did I meet at that event?ยซ
ยปI promised to send something.ยซ
ยปIt has been a while since we caught up.ยซ
That might mean maintaining friendships across cities, remembering people from professional events, or following through with former colleagues.
Apple Contacts may already cover your needs if you mainly want to store and look up contact details. Persodex adds value when you want to keep more of the relationship context close at hand.
Persodex is available for iPhone and iPad. A Mac app is in development.
